New Creation

You past might have been a bad one. You've done so many sinful things, you might be grieving over stupid mistakes that you've made.
But here's the good news: all of your past is over. And by the time you received Christ as your Savior, you were reborn in Him.
And right now, you're a new creation in Him. The old has gone, the new has come.
And the new life you're living right now will never be the same again with Christ by your side. (-fon-)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
---2 Corinthians 5:17

Self-Centered

I met some people, they're just so self-centered. They seldom ask about other's condition and the main topic of their conversation are only themselves. They talked about them all over again and put so little interest in other people's problem.

When I talked to these kind of persons, I myself had this question inside of me.
Am I that self-centered as well? Do I really think my problem is the biggest problem on earth and I am the poorest person in this world?
Can I still see God's blessings within the area of my life that I should be thankful for?
Sometimes we tend to be self-centered without even realizing it.

But as God's disciples, we need to be more focused on others. Don't be too selfish or self-centered, because we're not the center of the universe. Our God is!

By focusing more on God, we'll be less selfish. And when we become less self-centered, we could see and try to understand other people's problem with a new perspective.
So, focus on Him more! (-fon-)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

TOTD, Jan 25

Dear friends,
Actually I seldom write about death. This topic is a bit scary for most of us. I sometimes find it hard to face it too.
But since it's unavoidable and it will eventually come to everyone of us, so I decided to write it anyway.

GBU,
-fon-

Life Is Just Temporary

Handsome, famous, rich, and young. What else could he got? But the news of the sudden death of Brokeback Mountain's actor, Heath Ledger at the age of 28, came as a big not to mention a huge surprise.

Dying young would be considered a tragedy to most people on this planet. But, who can escape from the death itself? One day, we'll eventually face it.
I'm just being reminded that life is so short. Life is just a temporary assignment while we're heading to the real destination: eternity.

According to Rick Warren, " The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can't see now will last forever."
If we look at the bigger picture, we'll understand that life is just a short period of time. A time of preparation to a sweet reunion with our Father in heaven.
Rick also said that when life gets tough, when you're overwhelmed with doubt, or when you wonder if living for Christ is worth the effort, remember that you are not home yet. At death you won't leave home --- you'll go home.

So, don't be bothered or overwhelmed by the problems or unanswered prayers, because we know where we're going to. This earth is not our final home; we were created for something much better. God has already prepared it for us. Thank God. (-fon-)

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
how fleeting my life is.

Virtue

This world has changed drastically. All the virtues and pureness that were once there, now changed rapidly.
Well, people can blame it on technology, on this modern era, on globalization, on materialism, or even on everything, But, we need to admit that the value of virtue is gradually fading away.

How about us as Christians?
God has already told us over and over again to 'love'. And the act of love is the thing that binds all the virtues together.
We can't be lack of that! We can't be lack of virtues nor we can't be lack of love in our life.
Or else, we'll live our life exactly like the world. Remember that we need to be different from this world.

So, no matter how painful your condition is right now. No matter how bitter your life is at the moment. Don't loose your virtues! And the most importantly don't loose your love.
This can only happen if we know the source of love. Jesus Himself.
Just love Him and let yourself be loved by Him.(-fon-)

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

The Lord Reigns

Today you may have your worries, about your future. Today you may have anxieties of your financial condition, your children, your soul-mate to be, your job, your health, your country's political situation, anything... just name it.
But let us be reminded once more, we can't control everything. With our limitations, we can't manage everything according to our will.

But our God can!. When I read this verse of the bible, I smiled happily, knowing that our Lord reigns!
Not only on earth, but also in heaven. His Kingdom is full of power.

So,today, whatever your worries are, just let Him know. Just remember that He reigns forever and ever. Amen. (-fon-)

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"

Taste And See

I started this morning in a rush. I got busy with my daily routine. I found that today's just another busy day.
But then, as I walked around this apartment with my baby, I could see from a different perspective.
It's not an ordinary day...!
I saw the white clouds decorated the blue sky prettily. And the birds were flying in the sky. I hold my breath for a while, fascinating by the beauty of the nature that God has created just in front of my eyes.

All I need to do is just taste and see.
Just taste and see the beauty of the nature and then remember once more that God has created it perfectly.

In case you've started this very day in such a hurry... In case you forgot how good our God is...
All you need to do is just sit back and relax for a while, look at the nature that has already shown that God is good all the time.
Just taste and see... (-fon-)

Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him

God's Help

I went to see my baby's pediatrician yesterday. Just wanted to review her weight. I went there by myself together with my baby. As her milk-feeding time came, I fed her at the hospital's couch. Once I turned around to put the bottle on the table, Audrey was sliding down from the couch, almost fell down. With my reflex, I tried to protect her from falling down. All I could do was just holding her head with both of my hands and put her down safely on the carpet floor in the hospital.
She was safe. I was relieved.

Then I realized, how many times God has helped us to avoid us from free falling? Well, we might have fallen, but God's hands are always long enough to help us so that we're not severely injured when we fall.
I might fail to catch my baby due to my human limitation, but God has never failed to catch us. Simply just because He is God!
Now, we can be rest assured, since His Help would always be there for us. Now and forever. Amen. (-fon-)

But I have had God's help to this very day, and so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen—
--- Acts 26:22

Begin With God

When you just experienced a failing experience, or your life's trend is going downward, you might feel that you don't have any direction. You don't know where to go or what to do.
Then, there's time when you're questioning: " What on earth am I here for?"

Rick Warren on The Purpose Driven Life has shown me that the purpose of our life is far greater than our own personal fulfillment, our peace of mind, or even our happiness. It's far greater than our family, our career, or even our wildest dreams and ambitions.
And then he wrote: " If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose."

Rather than concentrating our life with our dreams and thoughts, we need to find the very basic, back to the very start, and let us begin with God. Because only in Him and with Him, we won't be lost. Only with Him, we will live our life to the fullest because He knows exactly what on earth we are here for. To fulfill His Purpose in our life.
So today, let's begin with God. Let's seek His Presence more and ask Him to guide us in this life so we could follow His wonderful purpose in our life. (-fon-)

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.
He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."

Patience

My whole career has been in stock market in Jakarta. I spent 10 years there. A place where the word 'patience' was really far from my daily job's reality.
A fast-paced working environment, where I needed to be meticulous all the time.
I needed to be as fast and perfect as I could while at the same time I needed to be as efficient as I could. Time was running fast, so was my heartbeat. Getting the best price for my clients and competing with other brokers to grab the best price that I could get. That's what my aim. Tried to beat the market average.
That's my day to day job back then.

Now, in my episode as a full time mom, it's completely different when it comes to the word patience. It's Audrey- my baby's feeding time. Sometimes, she doesn't want to open her mouth. Or sometimes, I need to sing different songs, read some books for her, give her various of toys and yet she still needs 30-40 minutes to finish her solid food.
Trust me, it's not that easy to be patient, but I try my best.
Because God has told me and has shown me what patience is all about.
His Love and patience are very good example for me, His child, to follow His Path.

So, what's your obstacle in being patient today? Try to overcome it. Plus put extra effort in increasing the level of our patience. Remember, we need to be different with this world because we're His chosen people.
Be more patient!

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

What's Your Gift, My Friend?

I read Bo Sanchez blog today (Bo Sanchez is a preacher from the Philippines).
As usual, his blog is always full of new inspirational thing. This time he shared a story about his friend, Alvin Barcelona who's been a wonderful singer all his life. Alvin celebrated his birthday by singing in front of the very old, the sick, the blind, the paralyzed, the mentally handicapped, the poorest of the poor --- people who would never be able to pay for a concert. Except with their smile and tears (source: Bo Sanchez's blog).

Then Bo challenged all the readers including me by asking: " What is your gift, my friend?"
With those gift that we've got, maybe we could brighten somebody's day. With that gift, we could be what Bo called: God's kiss to this world. We could spread more love by becoming His kiss in this world.

You must have a gift from God within yourself. So, what's your gift, my friend? Find it, explore it, really strive your full ability in it. And you'll see, that you might spread His love more and more each day in this world.(-fon-)

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us...

Humble

Everybody knows Don Moen. Everybody sings Give Thanks, Hallelujah to the Lamb, God will make A Way, and hundreds of songs which were sung by him. But how many of us know about his humble attitude?

Ask Don Moen what he does, and the answer might surprise you. He won’t say he’s a songwriter even though he’s written more than 100 songs. He won’t say he’s a worship leader even though he’s led worship on every continent but Antarctica and recorded numerous albums. He won’t say he’s a businessman or producer even though as President of Integrity Music he has produced and directed hundreds of projects that have helped make the company an industry leader.
If you ask Don Moen why God put him on this planet, he’ll tell you, “To be an architect who designs products and events that help people experience God’s presence in a new and fresh way.” And in more than three decades of ministry, he’s had lots of opportunity to fulfill that purpose.
(source: Don Moen's website)

How about us? Do we often become proud of the ministries that God has asked us to do? I mean we tend to be boastful by becoming a worship leader, a band singer, a dancer or the ability to share the Word of God to others? God has already trusted us with those ministries. And all we have to do is just: becoming a humble person. Realizing we, like what Don Moen said, are architect who designs better things so that people would experience God's presence in a new and fresh way.
It's all about Him and not about us... (-fon-)

But I will leave within you
the meek and humble,
who trust in the name of the LORD.

Thank You, Lord!

When I prayed through an on-line website: http://www.sacredspace.ie, I found a very interesting prayer and here it is:

Sometimes I wonder what I might say if I were to meet you in person Lord. I think I might say "Thank You Lord" for always being there for me. I know with certainty there were times when you carried me, Lord, when it was through your strength I got through the dark times in my life.

Then, it made me wondered... How many times God has helped us and carried us especially in the darkest time of our life? He has helped us over and over again.
A Big THANK YOU should go to Him, because He is faithful and kind.
We might not realize how wonderful our God is, but let me remind all of us once again, He's faithful, marvelous, and full of love.

So, what would you say if we meet Him in person? I think THANK YOU would be the most suitable words for Him. (-fon-)

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Sweet Sound In Your Ear

Let me tell you a story about the composer of the song I Love You Lord: Laurie Klein

A remote mobile home gleams faintly in the crisp Autumn sunrise. Within that metal refuge in the high deserts of central Oregon, a young mother is having a quiet time with the Lord. Her toddler is still asleep. Her husband is a full time college student, and the couple is surviving on $400 per month. They have no home church, no friends nearby, and she does not drive. Even the expense of a long distance phone call might leave them without milk or bread in weeks to come.
Such is the backdrop of Laurie Klein's classic praise song, "Love You, Lord", written in 1974.
"It was a very hopeless time, a very depressed time," she summarizes. "I felt the poverty of my own life keenly at that point, both emotionally and physically."
"That morning I was so empty," she says, recalling her time with the Lord. "I knew I didn't have anything to offer Him. I asked if He would like to hear me sing . . if He would just give me something He would be in the mood to hear."
Klein describes "I Love You, Lord", as a gift from God that emerged spontaneously: "I sang the first half and put the chords with it with no effort," she says.
I love You Lord
and I lift my voice
To worship You
O my soul, rejoice!

Intrigued and moved by these words, she remembers thinking, "maybe I should write that down." She stopped long enough to get a pen. When she came back, the last two phrases came just as easily:

Take joy, my King
in what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound
in Your ear.

Well, I was moved by Laurie's wonderful way to worship God. She has nothing to offer, except an open heart full with thanksgiving and LOVE to our dear God.
For many times, we feel that we don't have anything to offer Him. We don't have enough money to help others, we don't have beautiful voice to sing in music ministry for Him, maybe we thought we left with nothing (this usually happens in times of depression).
But, at least we can still connect with Him through prayers. A simple one will do. As long as we pray it with full sincerity, I'm sure it will please Him and it will be a sweet sound in His ear. (-fon-)

Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard.

He Is Able

When I looked back, I've never thought that I would spend this year living in Singapore.
I always thought that I would spend the rest of my life in Indonesia.
But that was my thought, a full of limitation thought.

God has worked tremendously, far above what we could ever think of. Far above what we could ever ask for.

Don't limit God's mighty power, because no limit in it.
The only thing that might hold us back is our mind. We thought God is as small as our thought.
Trust me, we're wrong! God has proved Himself so graceful and yet so powerful over and over again.
He is able! No doubt about it... (-fon-)

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
--- Ephesians 3:20

When God Seems Distant

God is real, no matter how you feel.
It is easy to worship God when things are going great in your life --- when he has provided food, friends, family, health, and happy situations. But circumstances are not always pleasant. How do you worship God then? What do you do when God seems a million miles away?
The deepest level of worship is praising God in spite of pain, thanking God during a trial, trusting him when tempted, surrendering while suffering, and loving him when he seems distant.
( Taken from The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren chapter 14- When God seems Distant).

I've just been through those unpleasant moments in my life. Previously, when I was just baptized around 7 years ago, everything was so sweet. The prayers, the thanksgiving that I offered, the praise and worship, the mass, the church, everything was perfect.
And then everything started to change. From sweet moment, it became 'lack of flavor' when it comes to my relationship with God.
But those 'lacking-of-sweet-feeling-time' has made me come to a higher level of relationship with Him. Right now, after the struggling and by the grace of our Father, I can smile and be content with what I've got. I know, He's there despite all the bad things, problems and trials that I'm experiencing. His love is stable and constant. But our feeling is always fluctuating and we need some time to realize His Faithfulness, especially in times when we're so depressed and frustrated.

Then, I made up my mind. Good times and bad times, I will praise Him. With all my strength, with all my soul. Because He is faithful. He's not that far... We thought He's distant, but He holds us close to His heart.
Let's praise Him in every moments of our life, happy or sad, in joy or in sorrow.
(-fon-)

...Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
--- Hebrews 13:5

Heaven on Earth

When husband and wife keep quarreling and fighting in each day of their life, they might think that they're experiencing 'hell' in this world.
The dream of a picture perfect marriage was scattered, the moment each party thought they're more important than the other. That's also the time when the ego and selfishness appear more strongly. They were united in a wedding vow, but then they easily forgot it and take it too lightly.

Or you may have another experience, whenever you go home, you feel uneasy and insecure, due to the situation in your family. Maybe too many conflicts or too many problems (one problem leads to another) that can not be solved and they become painful moments in your daily life. Then you might think, is there heaven on earth? Why you keep experiencing the 'hell' in this world?

Well, heaven or hell is actually our decision.
You may let your selfishness influenced you so much while at the same time you can choose to face all problems with love. Not our love, not the love from this world, but with Heavenly Love, the Love from God.

So, we could make our family, our working environment, our church, our school, or even this world: a better place. We can create heaven on earth. It's not an exaggeration! As long as we do it with God's love, as long as we do it with His guidance and help.
It's not too late, wherever you are, let's create heaven on earth today! (-fon-)

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Healing Our Wounds

Have you ever experiencing a broken heart, the day when your loved one left you with one or many reasons, but the fact is: both of you can't be together anymore?
Or how about this? Have you ever lost your loved one because God has called them back to heaven and you will never have the chance to see him again in this life?

I myself have had the experience. My father passed away around 15 years ago. Back then, I haven't met Jesus as my personal savior and I didn't have any knowledge that death is supposed to be a sweet reunion with Him.
I cried and hurt.

Lots of things happen in this life which were completely different with our expectation.
That's when we have some bruises and wounds inside of us.
One thing is for sure, don't ever find the cure from this world, because it will never satisfy us. Put our hope in times of hurt in Him, and be sure He'll be the best healer of our wounds.
(-fon-)

Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun,

Relinquish Your Past

Everyone has their own past. Some of them of course : good ones-sweet memories, but some of them were moments where we could feel pain, bitter, or anger.
When we talk about relinquish (read: let go) of our past, most likely we're talking about the bad ones, the ones that influenced us so much that affect our present behavior.

No one has a perfect past. Lots of us had a not-so-sweet childhood, living with a single parent or being an unwanted child but managed to escape from abortion and survived.
And many other reasons.
But the past has already been over. The most important thing right now is today and we believe that God has already prepared a beautiful future for each of us.

Let go of the past. That's when we can move on and move forward in this life. (-fon-)

Forgetting what is behind and straining forward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Pure Like a Child

If you happen to dislike someone and you think that person is your enemy, just think about this for a while.
The person that you hate was once a little baby who's very weak, innocent, and need a lot of help for the people surround him.
And then, as he grew up, lots of things influenced his behavior, the hatred-the bitterness-the agony or even the influence of the evil made him this way. Those things made him so unreasonable or do bad things like what he did in the reality of life.

And then we need to check about our own self as well. How are we doing as an adult today?
Do we behave violently towards others? Or do we always talk very negatively or cynically?

Let me take you to this faith imagination:
Imagine ourselves as an infant or as a little child, we were so pure and innocent.
It's true that we've made mistakes and done sinful things, but we have the image of that little child inside of us.
So, let us dig further to get that pure little soul out and make it our attitude in this life.
Be pure like a little child! Be good to others... (-fon-)

And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Live the Dream

LIVE THE DREAM is a reality talent show for aspiring singers aged 25 and above to take the golden shot at fulfilling the dream. The show has already been broadcasted by channel 5 in Singapore, and has crowned one marvelous soloist, Fendi as the winner for individual competition, and By definition as the group's winner.
They've proved that they could live their dream even though their age is not suitable anymore for joining Singapore Idol (or AFI in Indonesia) which limits their contestants' age.

How about us?
Do we have a dream that we've longed for all these time? Does our thought limit our dreams?
Well, the show has taught me to keep living the dream inside our heart. Especially, the ones that we put so much passion into. And I believe the passion itself comes from God.
And if His time has arrived, He'll fulfill those dreams according to His Plan for our life.

So, as long as your dream is a positive one, go for it, fight for it, put a lot of passion and love in it, and pray for it!
God's time will arrive and we can smile, satisfied with what He has already prepared for us. (-fon-)

My Plan vs God's Plan

Have you ever planned your life so perfectly that you thought that's the best for you?
Maybe each one of us has done that before. But then, there were times when our picture perfect plans left scattered and we're just left there hopeless.

I found that many times our perfect plan isn't God's perfect plan for us. And many times when we pushed ourselves too hard to achieve our plan, we'll end up in huge frustration, because we need to remember that He's the scriptwriter of our life!

One thing is for sure, His Plan will always be the best for us. Even though it's completely different with our expectation, but His Plan is the best. I'm glad that we know the One who knows every single detail of our life's puzzle. He is our God! (-fon-)

Lessons of Life

It will be a pleasant thing if our life runs smoothly, where only success and good things happen in our life.
But, we need to face the reality that sadness also happens in this life. It's unavoidable. We must face the fluctuation of financial situation, we need to face the lost of our loved ones, so many unpleasant things take place in our episodes of life.

I've seen and experienced some sadness as well. We all have been through that! And I believe that's the time when we learn something valuable in our life. We learn our lesson of life which can't be taught from any school, except the school of life.

But with God as our true Teacher, we need not be afraid. The lessons of life bring us closer to our God by realizing He's the One we should rely on. We live this life for Him, this life isn't ours anymore. (-fon-)

As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

Trusting God

Whenever I have an MRT ride in Singapore, I've never seen the man who operates it. What I do is just take a seat and get in to it. And the rest: I'm just enjoying my journey within it.
It's so simple. I just trust the person who operates it without knowing him.

What about this life? We sometimes trust other things so easily, but when it comes to trust God, do you find it hard?
Well, we shouldn't feel that way! Because if we can trust the person that we hardly knew, why can't we trust God who's our Father?

We should trust God more than anything or anyone else. Because if we put our hope in God and we're trusting Him, He will never disappoint us. (-fon-)

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

How Deep is Your Love?

God's love is wide as the ocean, high as the heavens above, and deep as the deepest sea. Well, it might be hard for us to understand the height, depth, width, and consistency of God's love. But, we need to remember over and over again that God's love is unlimited and measureless.

Actually, it's not that hard to know how good and loving our God is.
Just look around, you'll see! The radiant morning sun, the beautiful mountain, the morning dew, the dusk, the breeze, or even our own breath, everything represents the natural beauty that God has already given to us for free.

As I listen to the bird's chirping in my apartment, I realize once more, God has already given me the sound of nature. So beautiful, yet so pure.

God's love is without a doubt: consistent and measureless. The question is: how deep is your love for God? (-fon-)

Hope

When we're thinking of our future, sometimes we might get afraid or worried. We're worried about our children's education, financial condition, health, soul mate, job, etc. etc.

But on the contrary, our belief in God allows us to keep the hope alive. We keep on hoping in God. That sounds very soothing indeed. In facing this battle of life, we can be rest assured because we put all of our hope in God and we know that we won't be disappointed.

Hope in God help us to have a courage to move on in this unpredictable life. Everything changes, but God stays the same. He's the same today. And He'll be as faithful as yesterday in our future.
Put our hope in God. It's the best weapon in this battle of uncertainties. (-fon-)

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Forgiveness

When I was small, I remembered that sometimes I had a quarrel with my youngest brother, and then we easily made up and be friends again. We kept quarreling though, but at the same time we kept forgiving each other and becoming friends again.

As in our daily life, the more mature we are, the more difficult for us to forgive others. Whatever the reasons: pride, jealousy, envy, or anything, we could hold our hatred and grudge towards others for quite some time. It may take weeks, months or years to forgive others.

But, as God's disciples, we need to be like small children in their way of forgiveness, easy to forgive and move on. Well, you might say that it's easier said than done, but trust me, it's possible to do so as long as we try our best.

New year means a brand new start. Why don't we start with forgiveness? (-fon-)

6:14"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
6:15"But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
