Take Up the Cross

Each of us has a cross to carry.  There is no need to make one or look for one.  The cross we have is hard enough for us!  But are we willing to take it up, to accept it as our cross?

Maybe we can't study, maybe we are handicapped, maybe we suffer from depression, maybe we experience conflict in our families, maybe we are victims of violence or abuse.  We didn't choose any of it, but these things are our crosses.  We can ignore them, reject them, refuse them or hate them.  But we can also take up these crosses and follow Jesus with them.

As usual, Henry Nouwen’s writing has reminded me again that each of us, no matter how happy our pictures on social network such as Facebook, needs to struggle and take up our crosses. As Christians, we need to follow His paths. Follow Jesus as our main example. Follow Him and bear the cross with Him. We can never face it alone, but with Him, anything is possible. (-fon-)

Memikul Salib

Setiap dari kita punya salib yang harus dipanggul. Tidak perlu membuatnya ataupun mencarinya. Salib yang kita panggul, sudah cukup berat bagi kita! Tetapi, apakah kita akan memikulnya, menerimanya sebagai salib kita?

Mungkin kita tidak bisa belajar, mungkin kita tidak sempurna secara fisik, mungkin kita mengalami depresi, mungkin kita menghadapi konflik dalam keluarga, mungkin kita adalah korban kekerasan atau pelecehan. Kita tidak memilih hal tersebut, tetapi hal-hal inilah merupakan salib kita. Kita bisa tidak memedulikan mereka, menolak mereka, atau membenci mereka. Tetapi kita pun bisa memikul salib ini dan mengikuti Yesus bersama dengan salib yang harus kita pikul tersebut. (Henry Nouwen – Taking Up Our Crosses).

Seperti biasa, tulisan Henry Nouwen telah mengingatkan saya sekali lagi bahwa setiap dari kita, tak peduli betapa bahagianya foto-foto kita di media sosial semisal Facebook, perlu berjuang dan memikul salib kita. Sebagai pengikut Kristus, kita perlu mengikuti jejak-Nya. Mencontohnya sebagai teladan utama kita. Mengikuti Dia dan menanggung salib bersama-Nya. Kita takkan pernah sanggup menjalani semuanya sendirian, tetapi bersama-Nya, segala sesuatu itu menjadi mungkin. (-fon-)
