Do Things Without Complaining

It’s never been easy to discipline our mouth. We tend to complain easily, especially when things go wrong. We can’t accept the difference with others easily, so we start to complain and sometimes gossiping. The bible reminds us to stay positive, to do all things without complaining nor disputing. We are the children of God, we need to upgrade our attitude to show that we’re His children. Start doing without complaining. (-fon-)

Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault.

Glory, Majesty, and Authority

Life is just an ups and downs experience. Sometimes we rise, sometimes we fall. But, the good thing is: He is able to keep us from stumbling, and He’ll make us stand in the presence of His glory with great joy. And He really deserves to receive all the glory, majesty, dominion and authority forever and ever. Amen. (-fon-)

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Divine Love

ALL PRAYER BEGINS with God.
The Creator does not wait passively
for us to come with our prayers;
rather, our prayers are
a response to divine love.
- Jane E. Vennard with Stephen D. Bryant The Way of Prayer (from the Upper Room)

Reading the quotation from Jane E. Vennard, I think it’s really interesting that actually our prayers are a response to divine love. And God does not wait passively for us to come with our prayers. And reading Hannah’s prayer from 1 Samuel 2 at least showed me how to pray to the Lord and response to His beautiful love. Divine love. Let’s rejoice in Him.(-fon-)

Then Hannah prayed and said:
"My heart rejoices in the LORD;
in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.

He Has Prepared

A young girl with an ambition to go abroad for her study cried, because her father just told her that he didn’t have enough money to send her to further her study outside the country. She was very sad, because it’s all she ever wanted. She wanted to feel different environment, different culture, different life as well as different educational system in another country which she believed will bring her new exposures. She prayed and prayed, but didn’t get any change of plan. She will study here in her own country. But then, suddenly the scholarship letter that she has sent for quite some time ago, got a reply. And it’s a YES, she got a full scholarship from a country in Europe. When she’s just almost losing her hope, the greatest joy ever came to her. She thanked God for everything.

Maybe you’re just like the young girl. Or maybe, her story is your own story. Or maybe you’re in a desperate situation that she’s facing at the previous time. But, as long as you love God, you’ll find that someday, you’ll be surprised with whatever good plans that He has already prepared for you. (-fon-)

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard . . . the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

God Welcomes Us
ONE OF THE GREATEST OBSTACLES facing us on the road to spiritual formation is our lack of appreciation for our infinite worth in the eyes of God. No matter what faults and failings may hamper us on our way home to our Father’s house, God loves and forgives and welcomes us.
- Meeting God in Scripture: Entering the New Testament (the Upper Room)

We don’t think we’re worthy to receive all the good things from God, because we made mistakes, we’re sinful. But, God has always seen us in a much more different way, with His love He has always put on a smiling face, welcoming us. We’re precious and honored in His sight. So, never underestimate ourselves! God loves us and He wants us to feel His unconditional love without judging ourselves too much. His mercy will always be there for us. (-fon-)

Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give men in exchange for you,
and people in exchange for your life.

I Will Give You Rest

This was the verse that made me receive Jesus Himself as my savior. I was so tired, worried, burdened. But then, back to the year 1999, I wanted to know Him more. Who’s Jesus who can give me rest? I’m tired, weary and burdened, and a rest was all that I need.
Suddenly, I felt peace. A heavenly peace took over me. It was so beautiful and I’ve never had that kind of experience before. Experiencing God, made me want to know Him more, that’s when I really wanted Him like no other. Then, I tried to attend the learning session of knowing Him, until finally I was baptized on December 2000.
Until now, whenever I feel worried, anxious, tired, and burdened, this verse reminds me to take my rest in prayer and trust Him once more with my life. He will lift those burdens and change them into peace. (-fon-)

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

He Heals Our Wounds
EACH TIME I SPEAK or teach or gather together in some other way with folk from our local congregation, I am aware that each one of us sits next to a pool of tears. Each one of us carries in our hearts personal wounds as well as the wounds of the nation. Each one of us groans, not only with our own painful longings, but also with the painful longings of that part of the world where we live.
- Trevor Hudson with Stephen Bryant
Listening to the Groans: A Spirituality for Ministry and Mission ( the Upper Room)
This world is full of wounds. The death of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, has shown the world how a superstar needed to cope with his own wounds. His wounds are also our wounds. In a different way, not exactly the same way, but we all have our wounds. Sometimes, we cried a lot in sleepless nights, asking God why we need to experience this kind of painful thing? But, that’s when we can build up a better relationship with Him. And trust Him that He will heal the brokenhearted, He will heal our wounds, and He’ll be there for us in every stage and situation of our life. He’ll never leave us alone. (-fon-)

He heals the brokenhearted

Triumph in Christ

Before we know God, we always thought that if we succeed, it’s all because of our hard work, good effort, and sometimes it made us arrogant. Especially when we only experience the successful things without knowing the art of loosing, the art of failure. We’ll experience some failures in this life, only to find that we’re nothing compared to God. Our perfect plan can become shattered, but His plans will never fail. Then, we can realize that whatever triumph and success we got, we got them in the glory of the Lord. If we experience the triumph, we should be thankful, because it’s our triumph in Christ. Not because of ourselves. (-fon-)

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh
manifest the savior of his knowledge by us in every place.

God’s Compassion and Love

Before really becoming a mother, I had this dream to do the very best for my child. I thought that I’ll be very patience all the time. But in reality, in my tired days as a stay at home mom, I found that I couldn’t stay patience all the time. There were times when I was so tired and yet I needed to take care of my child. Thinking that it’s only one child that I’m currently have as a gift of God in my life, I couldn’t imagine how will my days be if I got more.

By then, I also remember the bible’s verse that keeps telling me about God’s love. He’s gracious and full of compassion. So, with a new strength, realizing that I’m imperfect but I want to try my best to follow His paths in His love and compassion, I want to love my family better, in a better way each day. (-fon-)

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

Abba, Help Me…

- Christopher Maricle
The Jesus Priorities: 8 Essential Habits

If God has a record on our sins, it’s definitely a full book of it. Sometimes, we can’t forgive others, we feel so much pain still inside our heart, it seemed that only yesterday we’ve been hurt (even though it might have happened years ago).
Forgiving, isn’t always an easy thing. But, if we think that God has always have mercy on us even though we have done so many mistakes and sins, why don’t we try to forgive others as well? And Abba, help me to develop a better attitude in forgiveness, so that I can always have mercy on others . (-fon-)

The Greatest is Love

Well, at this moment, you might have faith. You might have hope. But, you don’t have love. It’s lack of something. Love makes everything perfect. Even though imperfection exists, with the eyes of love, you’ll see in a different perspective. Just like in a healthy marriage, love makes the couples able to see the imperfection of their spouse beautifully. Beautifully imperfect.
Never forget that love is the greatest. Faith and hope? Yes, we need them. But without love, it won’t be complete. (-fon-)

Now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Run With Perseverance

BUDAPEST, Hungary - The neurosurgeon who operated on Felipe Massa said Monday his condition was no longer considered life-threatening, although damage to his eye and other injuries could prevent him from returning to Formula One.
Robert Veres said Massa was in stable condition and remained sedated "to protect his brain," which had experienced some swelling. Massa has been woken up from time to time for tests, and his motor skills seemed to be functioning properly, Veres said.
However, he said Massa would definitely not return to the track this season, and that his long-term future in the sport was in doubt.
"I don't know (if he can return)," Veres said. "It's too early to say anything concerning his future, regarding the race."
Veres was one of three surgeons who operated on Massa's multiple skull fractures Saturday, following his high-speed crash during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Massa was struck by a loose part from another car that bounced up and hit him in the helmet, giving him a concussion and sending his car into the protective tire barrier.
Several fragments of bone from the skull had to be removed during the operation, Veres said. (yahoo news)

After having years of career in Formula 1, Felipe Massa, had injuries that could endanger himself and his career. It’s pretty sad to read this kind of news while at the same time, we need to realize that life is really hard to predict and nothing lasts forever. While wishing all the best for Felipe and hoping that everything’s gonna be alright for him, let’s be reminded that we need to treasure all we have at this moment especially good health. It’s really important to be healthy. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Everything happens for a reason and it’s God Himself who knows the reason why. We might not understand His plans with our limited thoughts, but He can see the whole pictures of our life. (-fon-)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Certain of What We Do Not See

We love certainty. We love to know that in another 5 years, we’ll be in this or that country, holding this or that degree, with this or that kind of professional job or good business. But, can you imagine if you know everything, will it be a boring and predictable life? And on the other hand, you might think that you don’t need God anymore, because you know everything will run smoothly according to your wish.

But, here’s the fact. Life is uncertain. Too many times we’ve seen our plans shattered and changed with a new one. But, God is there to give us hope and we need to face this life with faith. Be certain of what we haven’t seen yet, because we trust Him. He will lead us wherever we go. (-fon-)

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Facing the Unpredictable Life

Have you ever thought that life is just sometimes a series of unpredictable things? When you expect something too much, you might want to see your life goes exactly like what you’ve planned. Then, you become disappointed and tired, because you don’t like the reality and still hoping that someday, somehow, life will go exactly like what you want.

But when we put our hope in the Lord, He will renew our strength. And hopefully, whenever we find the reality goes totally different with our expectations or totally unpredictable, we still can have that ‘eagle strength’ which is described in the bible as: will run and not grow weary, will walk and not be faint. Amen. (-fon-)

He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Be the Change!

Tonight, I’ve just finished watching the last episode of Prison Break, the story ended beautifully and I won’t tell you, since maybe some of you might want to watch it on your own :). This is the quote that I like:
“Be the change you want to see in the world." (from the last episode of Prison Break Season 4).

We’re just too busy to ask other people to change. We ask our parents to change, our children to change, our spouse to change, our brothers and sisters to change. Everyone! Colleagues, neighbors, countries, etc. Without realizing that we should be the one to change ourselves first. It’s not easy to change ourselves for the better, sometimes the process is full of tears and painful. But with God on our side, I’m sure we can change for the better, even a radical change in Him is possible. Be the change! Rather than complaining about how others should change, let’s try to be the change itself. (-fon-)

And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

There is none like YOU

Yes, God, there’s none like You. And You alone are the Lord. That’s why all the heaven and earth are worshipping and praising Your wonderful name.

Let’s not try to search on anything anymore, just search for Him more and more and find yourself deeper in love with Him in each day of our life. (-fon-)

Why Did You Doubt?

When people has doubt about you, whether about some very difficult tasks that may be too big for you, or something that seems almost impossible for you to do, no need to worry as long as you don’t doubt yourself. It’s not that you’re over confident, but moreover because you realize that you have God’s strength which enables you to do anything He plans for you. And whenever you think that you can’t do it, that it’s too hard for you, pray to Him and if it’s within His plan for you, He will equip you. Don’t ever doubt your potential. He has given each of us talents and positive things. And it’s within us. (-fon-)

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
--- Matthew 14:31

The Lord is My Shepherd

It would be difficult to find a more apt description of modern man and women than that of today’s gospel. “ They are like sheep without a shepherd” and we all know that there is nothing more pathetic, lost and helpless than a shepherdless sheep. Where are our shepherds? Who are they? Do they know us? Do they really care? Are they really human at all or are they hidden under the guise of money, which in present chaos, turns us into puppets? Or are they epidemics that make us feel ridiculously inadequate and loud in our pompous contradictions?
“ Come apart” we are advised. But we won’t do so. We choose to linger stubbornly in our entanglement rather than let go of what we long know is futile and self-destructive. How we fear the unknown. How we continue to rely on a recipe for our ills amid the “children of darkness” – the ones who refuse to trust the “light of the world”.
Listening to the beautiful psalm of today “ The Lord is my shepherd” I had to admit that while its words are consoling, if they are no more than pleasant sounds they never become really mine and never become life-giving. I might take today’s psalm and pray over it for the coming week, without any “ifs” and “buts” and learn how far I am from meaning what I say. It could well prove a revelation because there is yet so much hidden behind my cowardice that sorely needs to be uncovered. When it does, not only will Christ really shepherd me as one of His flock, but I too will prove a shepherd to those about me.
( Fr Gerry Keane, SJ).

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
--- Psalm 23:1-4

Do Not Fear, I’m with You

In the midst of the change, either it’s just a minor change or even it’s a major change, like changing countries, changing jobs, having a baby, getting married, etc., some of us might feel scared or worried.
It’s normal, but as the people of faith, we need to trust Him. That our faithful God will be there in every stage of our life. And He keeps reminding me: “ Do not fear, I’m with you!” (-fon-)

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Why Do You Want to Hurt Each Other?

URUMQI, China - The capital of China's western Xinjiang region was tense amid tight security Tuesday, a day after police fatally shot two Uighur men and wounded a third, more than a week after deadly ethnic rioting.
It was the first time the government has acknowledged that its security forces opened fire since the violence hit Urumqi on July 5. The government says at least 184 people have been reported killed, most of them Han Chinese, and another 1,680 wounded.
At the site of Monday's shooting, paramilitary police with shields and rifles blocked access to an alley of dingy apartment blocks where many poorer minority Uighurs live.
Troops blocked nonresidents from entering. A band of spikes lay across the road. Roads leading into the main Uighur district near the Grand Bazaar market continued to be blocked. (source: Associated Press).

Again there’s a fighting in this part of the world. This time it’s in China. It’s very sad to see this kind of things happen in this world. We’re all human nature, anyway. Should all the difference lead to fighting and killing? Will it solve the problem or bring even more of it?
The bible reminds us that we’re all brothers. Why do we want to hurt each other? Let’s live our life more peacefully. Difference is normal and natural. No need to take offensive acts only because we’re different. (-fon-)

An Inspirational Story :William Tan- A Doctor Like No Other

He who once entered the Guinness Book of Records with a 10 marathon push in 65 days on 7 continents is now putting himself to the challenge again. This time, he will embark on a wheelchair odyssey to complete 16 marathons over 49 days across the North and South Poles and all 7 continents. And if you think this is all about breaking world records and attaining fame? Think again. Dr William Tan, a Singapore wheelchair marathon champion, has undertaken this arduous journey to raise funds for the Global Flying Hospitals (GFH), a not-for-profit organization that provides medical support to suffering people around the world.

His life
Dr Tan, a neuroscientist and medical doctor, contracted polio at the age of two but missed out on two crucial drops of Salk Vaccine that resulted in his paralysis from the waist down. Dr Tan spent his childhood years sheltered and protected, and was not allowed to engage in physical activities. However, he became a wheelchair athlete after meeting Mr Wahid Baba, an ex-police officer who was left paralysed waist. (www.sdsc.org.sg)

Additional news from the Straits Times on Sunday, now he got a cancer, leukemia, and he’s fighting on it. Really, I can see that he’s a man of high spirit, highly motivated, and never give up. Yes, he found himself in denials when he knew that he got cancer, but eventually, he’s back on his track to fight his illness.
So, what’s your condition today? Is it really bad? Is it worse than Dr. William Tan’s condition?
Let’s try our best to move on with our life. With Him, anything is possible. Amen.

Comfort as much as Sufferings

Emergency officials were evacuating more than 400,000 people after an earthquake hit southwest China, killing one person, injuring hundreds and flattening more than 18,000 homes.
A government relief official in Yao'an county, a mountainous area of picturesque Yunnan province, told AFP that one person had died and 328 had been injured.
The US Geological Survey said the moderate 5.7-magnitude quake struck at 7:19 pm (1119 GMT) Thursday at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) in Yunnan province.( yahoo news)

Another news of earthquake. Another suffering in this life. It’s really sad when I listen or read this kind of news. But, we must now that the comfort from Christ will overflow our life. Reports on her prima donna attitude put Ella in depression three years ago and she revealed to have contemplated suicide.
The S.H.E member recapped one incident in their newly published pictorial book, "I was crying and driving at high speed on the expressway and in my mind, and I imagined papers carrying my death on their cover pages."
She also revealed to have given serious thoughts to her will, in which she would like her elder sister to sell her house in Taipei and split the money among their family members in Pingtung.
The girl group's trip to India opened up her mind and helped clear up the negative thoughts.(yahoo news)

And finally, a journey to India helped her to opened up her mind and clear up the negative thoughts. Even with popularity and fame, loneliness could come and disturb one person so much.
Psalm 55:2 shows us that thoughts could trouble us and distract us, so it’s really important to stay positive in faith, positive in mind, and positive in attitude. Don’t waste your time thinking of the negative ones, try to figure out the positive energy surround your life with abundant faith that He will always lead you no matter where you go. (-fon-)

Never Satisfy?

If you’re very thin right now, you might think of how to make yourself fatter. You’ll try to eat more and do everything you could to put on your weight. What if it’s the other way around? If you’re fat, you might try so hard to go on diet, to make yourself look slimmer and thinner. Most of the people are never satisfied with their physical appearance. Some people think that they’re too short, too tall, too fat, too big, too small, etc…
But actually the act that will please the Lord more is the act of thanksgiving. He loves when we give thanks to Him instead of complaining. Yes, He’ll listen to our complaints as well, because He’s a very good friend in our life, but He’ll love to listen to our fun stories of life as well… Learn to give Him thanks and praise…

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover

When you see someone in front of you, you might judge him/her easily. From what he wears, until his attitude or knowledge, you try to see as many things as possible and then kept them in your judgment book. Of course, we are different. So, it’s so easy to judge from the difference itself. But, is it the right thing to do?
The bible reminds us never judging someone else, for at whatever point we judge the other, we are condemning ourselves, because we who pass judgment do the same things.

So, never judge a book by its cover. Don’t judge anyone only by their appearance… (fon)

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

His Words Will Last Forever

Same chapter, same verse, same bible, you might think that it’s so boring. No new thing, only the same old thing. And to think that this book has already passed 2000 years old made you think of its relevance to present situation. You might have some doubts that really make sense. Some people might encounter that kind of doubts. But, to tell you the truth, it’s the other way around. It’s the most relevant/up to date book ever! It’s the most best-seller book as well! We Are Today’s Prophets

For all our efforts and goodwill, our success at revealing God to a troubled world appears to be futile. Every step in apparent human technological progress seems to bring with it more trouble than blessing. The human seems to disappear as the years sail by. Despite all approaches to portraying our faith with relevance, in our condemnation of ugliness, in all our programmes, prayers, pilgrimages, and whatever, the real beauty of what our Christian faith has to offer never really seems to emerge. One is forced to ask “ What are we really offering to mankind?”

I would suggest that it is the life of a convinced Christian living life love-laden with Christian revelation and made ones own. To live in a creative love of a Father who drew us out of nothing into a world of endless beauty, to be embraced by a Son who died for us in love and to rest in the assurance of a Spirit of consolation and serenity is surely beauty beyond expression. But it is what is alone ours to give. Why do we not relish and express our joy? Is it because in the words of today’s gospel “I am no prophet in my world” strange that I admit to have been given so much and yet I have so little to give? Am I so conscious of the weakness in me and that I dare not pretend I have something to contribute? We are today’s prophets. How can we be such if we fail to acknowledge what others have to give also? We all need the blessing of seeing what is ours and what is my neighbour’s too. (Father Gerry Keane, S.J of St. Ignatius Church Singapore’s short article).

Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor." 5He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Blessed is the Nation

Pretty soon, we’ll have the presidential election. We need to give our vote as a part of our responsibility as a citizen. While voting with our heart, we also need to trust that God will give the best to our nation, to our country. May God bless Indonesia! Let God guide us more and more. Amen. (-fon-)

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people he chose for his inheritance.

Uncounted Miracles

I received Jesus as my Savior in the year of 2000. Since then, I found many miracles. Some of them are very simple, even in my daily life. But still, I considered them miracles, because the way He brought me into His Paths was awesome and amazing.
Last night, I suddenly remembered one thing that happened around 10 years ago. I’ve always thought that it wasn’t a big deal, I could handle it. But, miraculously, God has shown me that in dealing that matter, I was too hard on myself, and I put myself in a deeply-wounded situation even though I’ve never realized it.
So, I forgave myself, I admitted all the feelings that I’ve encountered before. God has shown me His miracle again!
In prayer, I do expect for miracles, and those miracles come by transforming myself into a new me, changing my attitude for the better. In Him, we’ll find uncounted miracles. (-fon-)

He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
miracles that cannot be counted.

Contagious

Singapore has confirmed another 95 cases of H1N1 flu on Thursday, bringing the total to 878 so far.The Health Ministry says 329 patients have been discharged and the rest are recuperating. (source: yahoo Singapore)

Disease and virus spread very fast. Like what we read today, the total of H1N1 flu has reached 878 cases in Singapore. A very fast indeed! It’s really contagious.
Like disease, love is also contagious, if we can only spread the love as fast as the spreading of the disease, I’m sure it’s going to be a better place to live and more people could be healed. Spread more love! (-fon-)

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Humbly to Obey God

“I asked God for strength that I might achieve. I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for health that I might do greater things. I was given infirmity that I might do better things. I asked for riches that I might be happy. I was given poverty that I might be wise. I asked for power that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things that I might enjoy life. I was given life that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am, among all men, most richly blessed.”(God’s quotes, unknown Author).

Sometimes what we ask doesn’t exactly what we got. Like the quote, we were made weak to learn humbly to obey. And the One that we’ve been obeying is Jesus Himself (we can see from the Bible that the men were amazed and asked even the winds and the waves obey Him.)
We need to humbly obeying Him, He’ll give us enough strength to move on in this life. (-fon-)

The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

Don’t Think Too Highly Of Yourself

“A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”
C.S. Lewis quotes

The bible reminds us not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to. But think ourselves in a sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given us. By not looking down on others, at least we can have less proud and arrogance. Hopefully, we can be low-profile people, realizing whatever we got – they’re all from God. (-fon-)

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
--- Romans 12:3
